Sami Suodenjoki (PhD) is a Senior Researcher and an Adjunct Professor (Title of Docent) in Social History at Tampere University. He works currently in the Research Council of Finland's Centre of Excellence in the History of Experiences HEX. Suodenjoki’s research interests include media history, popular politics, everyday nationalism, and the interaction between citizens and the state in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He has published extensively on the rise of socialism, political informers, and revolutionary mobilization in Finland, and he is co-editor of the seminal anthology Lived Nation as the History of Experiences and Emotions in Finland, 1800–2000 (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021). Suodenjoki leads the project TV Sports at a Price: How the Sports Media Market Tests Finnish Media Companies and Cultural Citizenship, financed by Helsingin Sanomat Foundation (2026-2028). He is also part of the Yle 100 history project, examining the Finnish public service media company Yleisradio as an institution from 1995 to 2025. Suodenjoki's research focuses on Yle’s role as a producer of sports and news, as well as a broadcaster of religious and election programming and official public service announcements. Additionally, Suodenjoki is a researcher in a project, funded by the Finnish Cultural Foundation, which explores the 100-year history of journalism education in Finland. Suodenjoki is the former chair of the Finnish Society for Labour History (2018-2023). He is a researcher member of the Finnish Historical Society and a member of the Finnish Literature Society.
