Wirtanen Gun

Senior Advisor in Food Safety

I, Gun Wirtanen, work as a Senior Advisor in Food Safety at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (SeAMK) from February 2019 onwards. In 1996 I graduated from Helsinki University of Technology as Doctor of Science (Technology). Gun is also an external lecturer (docent) in process hygiene at the University of Helsinki from 2001 onwards and as an approved trainer in hygienic design by European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG). Gun has more than 30 years’ experience in microbial food safety, process hygiene, surface hygiene, biofilm eradication, hygienic design of food facilities and equipment, microbial air quality, food safety management as well as own checking systems including HACCP systems. She is honorary member of R3Nordic, which deals with cleanroom technology. Gun has previously worked: at VTT (in Espoo, Finland) 1988 - 2013, at DTU National Food Institute (in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark) 2014 – 2016 and at University of Helsinki Ruralia Institute (in Seinäjoki, Finland) 2017 - 2019. Gun is also lecturing in food microbiology and process hygiene as well as vegan food processing at SeAMK. Gun has published more than 500 publications dealing with food microbiology, quality control of foodstuff, hygienic design, cleanroom technology and food processing hygiene.
