Computational Modelling of Cellulose Interactions for sustainable materials.
Rahoitetun hankkeen kuvaus
Nanocrystalline cellulose provides a renewable, highly versatile, biobased and biodegradable material for, e.g., functional coatings, composite materials, personal or health care applications, and even electronics. Recently, also uses in fiber and textile industry have been demonstrated. Crucially for the environment and green approaches, nanocellulose derivatives provide environmentally friendly, sustainable alternatives to synthetic plastics. For all these uses, understanding and control of the interactions of crystalline cellulose with its surroundings are in key role. Data driven, computational approaches are key to advancing the field. This application is to apply for funding for doctoral degree completion in Aalto University on modelling and data-based approaches to understanding nanocrystalline interfaces.
