Solar driven photoreduction of carbon dioxide to high energy density solar fuels by TiO2/CdS thin films
Rahoitetun hankkeen kuvaus
Coming to the modern world, the growing demand of power requires sustainable ways to generate and convert energy. The depletion of fossil fuels has urged us to work for exploiting more renewable energy resources. Enormous research has been done to harness naturally available solar energy and exploring ways to store it. This project aims at not only removing CO2 from the atmosphere, which is contributing to global warming, and hence climate change, but also utilizing that CO2 to generate and store energy in form of high energy density fuels such as methane (CH4), and methanol (CH3OH). For this purpose, in this research project, TiO2/CdS Z-scheme photocatalysts will be fabricated in form of thin films. By depositing CdS over TiO2 films, the efficiency of photoreduction is improved by promoting better charge separation, absorbance in the visible region of solar spectrum, and by providing overpotential for the formation of different intermediates for reactive adsorption of CO2 over the surface and formation of fuels.
