Measuring value co-creation and co-destruction behavior for digital health service uses
Rahoitetun hankkeen kuvaus
Patients who go through a total knee arthroplasty need to do therapeutic exercise at home post-operatively to get rehabilitation. Exergames have been suggested a way to enhance the motivation and enjoyment in rehabilitation, which is inherently a process of value creation in the setting of digital health service (DHS) use. However, the extant literature is lacking a way to study and conceptualize the digital health service uses experience from a dynamic view. Our objective is to develop a framework to explain and to measure actors’ value co-creation and co-destruction behavior to fill this gap in the literature. The study employs a mixed method approach. By applying a structured literature review, we first propose a conceptual framework, which puts forward resource integration and social interaction as the two key processes of value co-creation and co-destruction. Then, qualitative and quantitative research approaches are applied. Gesture-controlled tablet games were designed for knee arthroplasty rehabilitation. In-depth interview and sensor-based data will be collected from ca. 100 patients who have gone through a surgery in two regional hospitals in Finland. As an output, we will develop a model for measuring the digital health service users’ value co-creation and co-destruction behavior. It is expected that the research findings will improve the understanding and measurement of digital health service process and create value for Finnish hospitals and patients by maximizing benefit and preventing unwanted outcomes. This model should also help practitioners in making decisions about DHS design, and management.
