Fish Oil and Probiotics in Pregnancy (FOPP study)

Kuvaus

A prospective, randomized double-blind placebo controlled dietary intervention trial in 439 pregnant women. Intervention involves randomization of pregnant women in a double-blind manner to receive either probiotics, n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (fish oil), combination of the two or placebo from early pregnancy onwards. The recruitment to the study started in October 2013 and was completed in July 2017. The follow-up visits of mothers and their children continue until child's age of two years. Additionally, four to five years study visits are planned. The impact of the intervention on health of the mother, particularly incidence of gestational diabetes during pregnancy and adiposity, risk of type two diabetes and cardiovascular health at postpartum will be evaluated. The results will be reported as scientific publications.
