Quantum communication and sensing with low-powered devices in the microwave regime

We will provide practical solutions for the quantum security problem in backscatter Internet of Things (IoT) communication in the microwave regime. We will propose novel security standards against a malicious warden that has access to unlimited computational power, providing a route for the experimental implementation of quantum-secure backscatter communication. This will be achieved by studying the intertwining between practical sensing capabilities and quantum security in thermal bosonic quantum channels, providing an information-theoretic analysis of low-powered communicating systems from various perspectives. Experimental implementation of these ideas will be ensured by an interdisciplinary team of collaborators. We predict commercial applications of our ideas in IoT scenarios, an increasingly popular standard for smart-homes, industrial monitoring, etcetera.
